Creator may have been in the Winner’s Circle following the 148th Running of the Belmont Stakes the day before, but for Floral Park residents, the annual Belmont Festival that was held on Tulip Avenue wound up being quite the winning ticket.

Under sunny skies and comfortable temperatures, it proved to be a picture perfect day for residents and visitors alike. With live music including the sounds of rock band Medicine Fish, attendees were able to leisurely stroll past myriad vendors including Duggan’s and Salon 311, admire works hanging up in an art show and even try their hand at getting someone wet in a dunk tank. Many local organizations were also out in force including the American Legion and CARE (Citizens Against Rail Expansion). In keeping with the equine theme was the Islip Horseman’s Association. Fresh off an opening day appearance at the track, this six-horse company performed drills and allowed people to pet their steeds. Among the team was newest member Apollo, a retired Belmont horse.
