Also planned for girls and boys is children’s gardening and children’s cartooning. New for 2015 is a jazz/hip hop dance program.

For village residents looking to get in good shape for the summer season, indoor slimnastics, yoga, Zumba and bootcamp classes are being offered. Please consult the Floral Park Recreation/Pool booklet for program descriptions, start dates and fees.

Registration for all of the above programs will take place on Thursday, May 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the pool and recreation building. Applications for the mentioned programs are available at the pool building and park shelterhouse.

The Har-Tru tennis courts are now seeing full-day play.

The opening day tournament took place on Saturday, May 2. Players enjoyed the first mini-tournament of the season.

During a full morning of play, mixed, men and women doubles action was the format of the four-game mini-sets.

Glen Krouse, Amy Chiang and Janice Forcinito captured the first seasonal titles.

In addition to tournament play, tennis lessons have begun during the week. Individual and group instructions, drills and doubles play have enabled all to improve their skill levels. With Har-Tru tennis courts needing daily watering, maintenance takes place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Residents are reminded that bicycles are not permitted in the park. Bike racks have been installed for all those who cycle to the facility. Please remember in accordance with village ordinance, smoking is not permitted in the park or pool grounds. The official VFP Leisure pass is needed upon request for use of facility and equipment. All residents are urged to apply for a free VFP Leisure pass which is free and easy to acquire for all VFP residents.
