Floral Park Chamber of Commerce Finishes Year on High Note

Outgoing President Sal Bonagura says goodbye, Mayor Tweedy to address members at January meeting

With membership numbers on the rise, the Floral Park Chamber of Commerce is ending 2011 on a high note. The Chamber holiday dinner and party was a tremendous success with 77 people attending the celebration at Crabtree’s Restaurant on Dec. 19.

This fall, elections were held and a new board of directors will be sworn in by Mayor Tom Tweedy at the next meeting on Jan. 5 at noon at Jameson’s Bar & Grill, located at 157 Tulip Ave., Floral Park. The cost is $17 for lunch.

Outgoing President Sal Bonagura will be ending his term as president with new President Terry Whalen taking the reins. “It has been a pleasure in serving as the Chamber President for the past two years, and six of the past 15 years. I would like to thank my entire Board of Directors for all of their help and input for the past two years,” Bonagura said.

In other news, The Floral Park Chamber of Commerce and AAA Taxi each proudly donated more than $5,000 to the Village of Floral Park for the purchase of 22 recycling receptacles. Eleven will be for bottles and cans and 11 will be used for newspapers. Outgoing Chamber President Sal Bonagura stated that the receptacles should be delivered and disbursed around the village in the next few weeks.

Each year, the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce requests each Chamber to select an honoree for the Small Business Person of the Year from the Chamber. This year’s honoree was Joanne K. Adams from The New York Racing Association, who received her award at the Legislative Breakfast held on Oct. 7 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

According to Bonagura, Chamber membership is now up to 186 and renewal notices went out recently by email. Please note the following changes for 2012: Dues remain at $150 if they are paid before Jan. 31; and dues paid after Feb. 1 will be $175 (to be included in the directory booklet).

The Chamber will be offering two additional levels of membership: (a) an individual member (not a business) will be $75; and (b) a not for profit membership (i.e. churches, schools and service organizations) will be $50.
