Letter: Residents Encouraged To Attend FP-Bellerose Budget Hearing

The purpose of the PTA is to advocate for and to promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school and community. The PTA recognizes that every child deserves excellence in education and in quality of life. We encourage residents to attend the Floral Park-Bellerose School District Budget Hearing on Monday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the John Lewis Childs School to view a detailed presentation of the budget.

Registration for the upcoming budget vote will be held at both schools on Monday, May 11 from 4–9 p.m. The vote is May 19 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., again, at both schools. Residents may register and vote at the school for which they are zoned. The budget vote for this year includes replacement of the playgrounds and the playground surfaces at both FPBS and JLCS, funding for SMARTBoards, computers and the continuation of the School Life Plus, Summer School and Saturday Enrichment programs.

In 2004, the proposed school budget was defeated and, as a result, programs and services had to be eliminated. In addition, the use of fields and facilities was restricted, student fees were increased, capital projects were canceled and computer and equipment purchases were eliminated.

On behalf of the JLCS PTA and the FPBS PTA, we urge you to vote on May 19.

Laurie Alvarado, Co-President FPBS
Teresa Brady-Kurtzke, Co-President JLCS
JoAnn Milea, Co-President, JLCS
Angie Montanaro, Co-President, FPBS
